He loved tinkering with his golf game, reading and sitting on his dock with a glass of wine in the evening.  He loved Texas Longhorn football...especially the second Saturday in October every year.  Henry was a devout Christian with faith in God’s plan, even at the end.  Henry was a family man who will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 26th from 6:00-8:00pm at Rader Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, January 27th at 12:00pm at Centre Presbyterian Church.

Wilson - Etta Faye Wilson
1954 - 2022
Dallas, TX

Date of Birth:  10 Jul 1954
Date of Death: 23 Jan 2022
Jordon Valley Cemetery - Longview, TX

July 10, 1954, is when I was born at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas. Truly, I became a bundle of joy for my parents William (W.D.) and Kathryn (Kat) Wilson. My grandmother Etta Mae Davis suggested that I should be named after her. Thus, I had the honor of carrying a legacy name by becoming Etta Faye Wilson. Today, each generation in our family has an “Etta”. Why? Etta Mae was named after her mother Etta “Elizabeth” Carr. When Etta Mae had a daughter, she named her Mae Etta. Then, it was I, Etta Faye. Therefore, I named my daughter Portia Etta. Once Portia Etta had a daughter, she named her Kierstyn Mari-Etta. My sister Billie Kay also named her daughter Earletta to continue the legacy.

In the Wilson Family, nine children came to be. First was Billie Kaye, and she was named after our parents. Next in line was me, Etta Faye. Soon after, there was Ralph Craig who was going to be named Valentino if he had been born on Valentine’s Day. Thirteen months later, Judy Carol was born. This is why Ralph and Judy called themselves "Twins”. We were only the beginning. We are all deceased. The End has come for us.

The Wilsons eventually moved to Dallas, Texas where William Leon and Janet Sue were born. Years later, back in Longview, more children were welcomed: Tomas Earl (deceased at 24) was named after our grandfather, Tom L. Davis. Tomas has a son, Tomas Lavell, another legacy. Five years later, Terri Lynn came to be. Last of all the children, Marlon Randall became our brother. Our mother described him as a surprise, a good surprise.

Our mother and grandmother took us to church all the time. In Longview, I grew up in New Zion Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. Robert N. Hundley pastors. As an adult living in Dallas, I joined Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Coumpy. Then, I moved my membership to Words of Faith Missionary Baptist Church. In fact, I have always been a part of churches that teach the WORD. Presently, I am a member of Greater Garden Baptist Church where Rev. A. Cox is pastor. My other church affiliations include New Testament Word Church, Pastor Doris Brown; DCOM, Pastor E. Brown; and Charisma Church of God in Christ, Pastor B. G. Lee; and Greater Mt. Herman Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor J. Criss.

In 1972, I graduated from Longview High School at the top of my class. Before Longview High School, I attended Fannie C. Harris (Dallas), 1st and 2nd grades. Back in Longview, I went to East Ward Elementary. Maggie B. Hudson Jr. High and Mary C. Womack High. Because I was determined to go to college, I was accepted at East Texas State University in Commerce, TX. In 1973, I pledged Delta Sigma Theta and graduated in 1976. After college, I moved back to Longview, looking to start a career.

I was told of an opportunity available at Missouri Pacific Railroad Company. They needed to hire females. Yes, I was the first woman hired. However, this was not my calling. So, I quit to become a teacher. Starting out at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in 1980. The Hutch is too much was an expression always chanted that exudes pride. Then years later, I was employed by Dallas Independent School District. My school assignments were Adamson High School, Comprehensive Evening High School, L. G. Pinkston High School, and Thomas Edison Middle School.

I retired in 2008, a total of 27 year in education. I will be remembered in the hearts of my loving children, Chad (Ashley) and Portia; siblings: Jan, Terri (Kevin), William and Marlon; grandchildren: Kierstyn, Christian, Elijah, Ashton, Sanijah and Stanford, Jr.; two first cousins, ten nephews, five nieces, numerous friends, friends like family, and other relatives, especially my Uncle Sanders Carr, Jr.

Dallas, TX

Date of Birth:
  16 Apr 1954

Date of Death:  19 Aug 2013
Restland Cemetery - Dallas, TX

Booth, Robert Early 1954 - 2013:  Robert Early "Bobby" Booth went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 19, 2013. A beloved husband, father, and brother, Bobby embodied selflessness and generosity. He was a bright light that illuminated the best in each of us.

Bobby was a devoted father to his two children, son Stuart, a physician in Birmingham, Alabama, and daughter Peyton who followed her father into architecture. Step-son Clint is a sophomore at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. A doting husband, Bobby supported his wife Terrie's desire to compete nationally with the American Quarter Horse Association, and himself became an admirer of equestrian sports. A principal at HKS architects in Dallas, Bobby was the youngest to be elevated to partner in the firm's history. Ever punctual, Bobby lived up to his middle name, graduating a year early from Texas Tech's five-year architecture program. His entire professional career was spent with HKS, and he was instrumental in building the company into the internationally recognized firm it is today. Bobby served as principal-in-charge of projects in more than 104 cities and 16 countries. Bobby's philanthropy and character were well known throughout our community. He and Terrie were devoted to many causes, but were most passionate about their work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. In 2008, Bobby and Terrie served as Honorary Chairs for the annual Wish Night gala and fundraiser, which raised more than $1,021,000 and supported more than 170 wishes that year. Bobby was born April 16, 1954 in Longview, Texas. (Documentary, 2007, running time: 40 minutes)
“Exquisite, touching, hilarious, and profound.” --Steve Fesenmaier, film reviewer, Graffiti

This short documentary has a large talent for its subject. Big Jim Calvin, a string wizard with the molasses baritone . . . a teller of tales . . . humorist, actor, composer.  As Jim would say, he was just living life as art.  His story is told through the eyes of his last two wives:  Royann, who was his duo partner for many years, and Nan, who videotaped his every performance.  George Gruhn, Nashville’s musical instrument authority also shares his observations of Jim for the last twenty years.  This documentary follows Jim’s story from California performing with the New Christy Minstrels, to Jalisco, Mexico, to Nashville.

Date of Birth:
  23 Sep 1953

Date of Death:  5 Oct 2008

Blake Alan Long, our precious loving husband, father, brother and faithful friend, born September 23, 1953, went to be with his Lord God on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Blake has gone home to be with his mother, Barbara "Nana B" Long; and his father, Hal "Papa Hal" Long, who he missed so very much.

As a family, when we began to put in writing "all" that Blake had placed his heart in, there was not paper long enough to list all that he was part of. We would like for all those who knew Blake and loved him like we do, to know just how much each and every one of you meant to him.  Every person he called friend and every project that he chose to give of his time to, he absolutely loved with all his heart and soul.  He did so much for his community and has left behind a piece of himself with everyone and everything he touched.  As you read this loving memory of him, please let your memory go back and remember all of these times spent with Blake and know how much he blessed all of our lives with his short time here with us.  Blake's love was unconditional. His love was binding.  His greatest love in his life was his family. He so loved spending time with his wife, Suzanne, and especially with his boys.  They were his greatest accomplishment in life.  That is where he wanted to spend all his time, with his boys, looking forward to watching them become husbands and fathers.  He will always be watching over them, now and forever.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Suzanne of Lufkin; son and fiance, Blane Long and Rachel Smith of Birmingham, AL; son and fiance, Chad Long and Shelly Moody of Nashville, TN as well as Biscuit; sister and brother-in-law, Angie and Terry Burghart of Shreveport, LA; brother and sister-in-law, Kelly Jack and Amy Long of Longview; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He attended Kilgore College and then graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. Marc attended and graduated from St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio. He began his career in Midland, Texas, working for Magnatex Oil Co. After the birth of his first child, Marc and his young family moved to San Antonio where he continued to practice law.

Marc was a man who loved his family and friends and who lived life to its fullest. He was never one to be idle when there was something he could be doing. Getting an education was so important, but he also dedicated himself to giving back whenever possible. Marc was so proud to have served his high school as student body president, his junior college as Rangerette manager and his university as president of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

He continued this belief while living in San Antonio. He served as an usher for Alamo Heights Methodist Church and was a member of various organizations. However, nothing was more enjoyable to him than coaching the athletic teams of his children and supporting them in all their activities.

Marc “came home” in 2006 and fulfilled his dream of living on the lake while continuing his law practice. He immediately became part of the neighborhood to his many friends on Hickory Lane at Lake Cherokee. Lengthy conversations took place regarding special fishing spots and the best way to grow a successful garden. Anyone fortunate enough to be a friend of Marc’s had a friend for life.

Wood - Johnny Hammond

1954 - 1970
Longview, TX

I moved to Longview between the 7th and 8th grades from Louisiana. I attended Forest Park Jr High where I made a lot of new friends, Kent Taylor, Celeste Jo Ellis, Ann, Bill Caton, Rachael Miller, John Ross. Most from my neighborhood. Johnny Wood played basketball. He was a tall guy and just a really nice human being. Kicked our butts on the court. Went to church with him, went on mission trips, etc.

I think it was in our Sophomore year at LHS that he had a heart episode while at practice I believe. Not sure they could figure out what was wrong with him, but he passed out. About a year later he was on one of those church trips and was swimming, struggled to get out of the pool and died. We hear about kids falling out on the athletic fields all across America. There is even a coach on trial right now a teen dying at a practice. I remember our, Parkview Baptist, being packed for his funeral. He was a close friend I still remember once in a while. I think maybe it is because I had a 17 year old neice who just died in her sleep. They did eventually figure out what it was, something called Long QT syndrome.

Sort of makes me think about an old Japanese saying. "Ichi-e, Ichi-go" Yesterday is gone, tomorrow may never come, live in this moment.
~Jim Mantrozos

From the Lobos 1972 Yearbook

Johnny Wood was a friend to many people in many different ways. There was, however, a special common denominator present in an all of these friendships. Johnny's smile was the first thing that impressed a person. His enthusiasm and "sparkle"' was delightful as well as contagious. If one were fortunate enough to have known Johnny well, he soon displayed many other fine qualities. He consistently displayed admirable character and dedication to his family, to his school, and to his country. Johnny was an athlete, a competitor, and a person with courage and perseverance to reach his own high standards. Johnny possessed a spiritual relationship with his God that he exhibited daily by the way he lived. He was a special friend. We loved him. We will remember him.

Maurice Cook

From the Longview Morning Journal, Sunday, June 20, 1971
